Right beside it is one of the town’s main attractions – the unique Singing Fountain. A total of 250 jets shoot water up to six metres high in refined intervals, shapes, and combinations controlled by computer, with the water display further enhanced by a mesmerising play of col-ours. All of this unfolds in harmony with famous musical compositions from various eras of history. Through the town parks, you can reach the architec-turally remarkable Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built in a historical Byzantine style, or the Orthodox Church of St Vladimir, the geological park, and, last but not least, the many springs scattered throughout the town. Tips for Exploring the AreaIf you feel like taking a trip outside the town, don’t miss two nearby gems. First is the monastery in Kladruby, featuring a rare church redesigned in the Baroque Gothic style by the brilliant Jan Blažej Santini. The Baroque con-vent building was added a little later by his greatest rival, Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. In a relatively small area, you can witness the awe-inspiring works of the two greatest Baroque architects active in the Czech lands. Also not to be missed is the monastery in Teplá, an intri- guing complex dominated by a Romanesque-Gothic three-nave Church of the Annunciation.The rugged surroundings of the town invite you to explore on foot or by bike. Cycle paths and well-marked hiking trails will lead you into slightly mysterious forests, past peat bogs, and to dark red lakes. The Kladská themed walking trail is well worth a walk. You’ll learn a lot about the local peatlands and the peaceful non-interven-tion area known as the Taiga. Golf & SpaGolfers will be delighted in Mariánské Lázně. Here you’ll find the oldest golf course in Czechia. It was officially opened as early as 1905, even with the presence of King Edward VII of England. The original nine-hole course was replaced by an 18-hole parkland course full of charm-ing nooks and a very tranquil, almost old-world English atmosphere.
